Selena Gomez has revealed she would have died if she did not receive a kidney donation

Selena Gomez has broken her silence about her recent kidney transplant. “My kidneys were just done. That was it,” a tearful Gomez says in a preview of her first interview since the operation, set to air on America’s NBC network over two nights next week.
Her donor, long-time friend Francia Raisa, sits beside her for the emotional chat.
“I didn’t want to ask a single person in my life, and that was the day I came home and I found out,” Gomez recalls. “[Raisa] volunteered and did it.”

When asked, Gomez acknowledged that actress Raisa, 29, saved her life.
“Because she did,” the former Disney starlet affirms to host Savannah Guthrie. “That’s it.
“I guess I got to the point where it was really kind of life or death.”

Gomez, 25, underwent the transplant in secret in May, revealing the ordeal only in September.
Sharing a photo of herself and Raisa lying side-by-side in hospital on Instagram, she explained:
“I’m very aware some of my fans had noticed I was laying low for part of the summer and questioning why I wasn’t promoting my new music, which I was extremely proud of.

“So I found out I needed to get a kidney transplant due to my Lupus and was recovering. It was what I needed to do for my overall health.”

The Bad Liar singer required the operation as a result of complications from lupus, which she’s struggled with openly for years.

In October 2015, Gomez revealed that she underwent chemotherapy to treat the auto-immune disease. In August 2016, she retreated from the spotlight to go to a Tennessee rehabilitation centre to treat anxiety and depression that reportedly stemmed from the condition.

She is currently dating Starboy singer The Weeknd.
