Big Sean Receives Key to Detroit

Detroit is celebrating Big Sean’s philanthropic “Moves.” The rapper was presented with the key to his hometown on Saturday (April 1).
At 29, the Motor City MC is the youngest person ever to receive the award and follows previous recipients Stevie Wonder and Motown mogul Berry Gordy. During the ceremony, held at the Madison Building, Mayor Mike Duggan praised Sean for giving back to the city through higher education.
“Today is only given out to our most special citizens, so they know that they’re always in the heart of Detroit,” said Duggan.

Sean was humbled by the honor. “Thank you Mayor Duggan for the Key to the City of Detroit. I know how big of an honor this is! Thank u,” tweeted Sean. “For the city! The youngest to receive this honor. Last people to get this were Berry Gordy n Stevie Wonder! Key to the City of Detroit!”

The day was also special for another reason. Sean and his mother Myra Anderson, a former teacher, also launched their Mogul Prep program, which encourages students to remain engaged in their education while providing insight into the entertainment industry. Their work with the Sean Anderson Foundation was a major catalyst for this honor.

After receiving the recognition, the hometown hero rocked the local Fox Theatre as part of his “I Decided. Tour.” “Detroit was one of the greatest most inspiring times of my life,” said Sean after the sold-out show.
His “I Decided. Tour,” which supports his latest chart-topping album, is set to continue through April 20 in Miami.
