FBI Director James Comey is set to testify before a
House committee on Monday regarding the investigation into possible
Russian hacking during the 2016 presidential election, as well as President Donald Trump‘s shocking wiretapping claims.
Meanwhile, Trump launched a series of tweets Monday morning, perhaps in an effort to distract from Comey’s testimony, which will likely debunking allegations, according to reports.
“[Former Director of National Intelligence] James Clapper and others stated that there is no evidence Potus colluded with Russia. This story is FAKE NEWS and everyone knows it!” Trump wrote at 6:30 a.m. ET, adding, “The Democrats made up and pushed the Russian story as an excuse for running a terrible campaign. Big advantage in Electoral College & lost!”
At 7 a.m., he tweeted: “The real story that Congress, the FBI and all others should be looking into is the leaking of Classified information. Must find leaker now!”
In a series of tweets last month, Trump accused Barack Obama of orchestrating wiretaps on the phones in Trump Tower in the weeks leading up to the 2016 election.
Trump didn’t provide any evidence alongside his claims, but Newsmax CEO Chris Ruddy said the new prez is “very confident” he will be proven right.
Later, the White House insisted that Congress open investigate into the claim as part of its probe into Russia’s meddling in the election.
Comey already opposed Trump’s claim last month, asking the Justice Department to reject it. James Clapper took a similar stance, telling NBC that “there was no such wiretap activity” against Trump or his campaign.
